Elon Musk says his AI company will release Grokipedia’s first beta soon to rival Wikipedia with better facts.
- Grokipedia early beta will launch in two weeks
- Created by Musk’s AI company xAI
- Aims to fix issues Musk sees in Wikipedia
Early Version Coming Soon
On Sunday, Elon Musk confirmed that Grokipedia will begin testing in two weeks. This version is called “0.1 early beta.” It’s being developed by his AI company, xAI. Musk said the tool is needed to provide more accurate information online.
Why Grokipedia?
Musk believes that many facts online are not complete. He says Wikipedia has “falsehoods” and “half-truths.” Grokipedia will work to correct that. Musk says it will be an open-source knowledge repository. That means anyone can view or suggest updates to information.
How It Works
According to Musk, Grokipedia uses xAI’s Grok chatbot to scan many sources. It compares things like documents, Wikipedia posts, and PDFs. The AI checks if the data is true, false, or missing details. Then, it rewrites the content to show what it believes is fully true.
Backstory and Tensions with Wikipedia
This isn’t the first time Musk has been critical of Wikipedia. In the past, he said Wikipedia censors information and pushes a one-sided view. In 2023, he even joked he would donate $1 billion if Wikipedia changed its name to “Dikipedia.” Musk has accused the platform of being biased many times.
Future Plans for xAI
Musk’s plans don’t stop with Grokipedia. He also said that xAI is working on a video game powered by AI. This game could be released before the end of next year. The goal is to use AI for more than just finding facts.
