BNB Chain X Account Targeted By Hackers
The official X (formerly Twitter) account of BNB Chain, followed by nearly 4 million people, was hacked on Wednesday. The hackers used the account to post phishing links that looked like wallet connection requests. These links were designed to trick users into connecting their cryptocurrency wallets.
CZ Issues a Warning
Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, the founder of Binance, confirmed the hack. He warned users not to click on the harmful links. “Do NOT connect your wallet,” he wrote on X. He added that BNB Chain’s security teams are working with the X platform to fix the problem and shut down the phishing sites.
Fake Wallet Connect Links
The phishing links disguised themselves as legitimate Wallet Connect prompts. But they were fake. According to cyber expert 23pds from SlowMist, the hackers used a common trick by swapping letters in the domain names to fool users. For instance, they replaced the letter “i” with “l” to make the site look real. He warned that these fake sites might be linked to the Inferno Drainer group.
Who Is Inferno Drainer?
Inferno Drainer is a known crypto scam operation that provides phishing tools for others to use. It helps scammers create fake websites that look like real crypto projects. The group became well-known in 2023 for helping attackers steal user funds through these fake pages. It’s suspected that this latest attack on BNB Chain’s account was carried out by someone using Inferno Drainer tools.
Is Anyone Affected?
It’s not clear yet if any users lost their money due to this attack. The phishing posts have been removed, but CZ warned users to be careful, even when clicking on links from official accounts. Always double-check website addresses before entering wallet info.
